300 BC – In Ancient Greece the physician Hippocrates gave the first written account of women suffering from episodes of pseudocyesis. He recorded twelve cases of the condition.
1516-1558 AD – Queen Mary I of England is suspected to have experienced two separate cases of pseudocyesis. However, historians debate this and believe that there may be a misdiagnosis of a physical condition such as fibroid tumors and ovarian cancer.
1923 AD – John Mason Good a member of the British Pharmaceutical Society coined the term ‘pseudocyesis’.
