Masters - Limitations of the Study

The major limitation to the study is that given pseudocyesis is a rare phenomenon, it meant that finding nurses who have lived experience of caring for and treating women who have experienced pseudocyesis was going to be harder than it would be to find nurses who have lived experience of other more common conditions and illnesses. This therefore put time and organisational pressure on the project as there was no guarantee of finding relevant nursing clinicians to interview. I have conducted interviews with six participants and so it must be said that my findings cannot be held up for generalisation of nurses lived experience. This is exploratory research and focuses on individual nurses subjective lived experience. It should also be noted that the research participants were recruited from the private sector as opposed to the National Health Service and this is because recruitment happened mainly through word of mouth and as I work in the private sector the potential research participants I encountered also came from this sector.
