Treatment For Pseudocyesis

Unfortunately, as the exact causes of the pseudocyesis condition are as yet unknown, there are no ‘cures’ available. We do advocate that in the aftermath of having suffered an episode of pseudocyesis that professional counselling be sought, not only for the person who suffered the pseudocyesis itself but also any family member, friend or indeed medical clinical that was closely involved in the pseudocyesis episode. Our reason for advocating this is that the impact of a pseudocyesis episode can be immense and the emotional trauma that those affected will have experienced should not be underestimated – indeed it may take a long time for the full impact of what occurred to hit someone. However, it must be noted that at The Pseudocyesis Foundation we do not encourage anyone to be forced into counselling, rather it is a choice that should be made by the individual when they feel that they are ready.
